The big arrival to Rioja Region – journey from Torres Del Río to Navarrete

I slept great last night. I had my own room. This is a big pleasure for a peregrino. It is amazing how what in the past you would have considered a small thing is a huge thing as a pilgrim.

Today, my Swiss friend, Steven and I walked almost 21 miles (37.6 Km). In the morning the weather was nasty by the afternoon was great. I was walking on short sleeves.

A few things happened today, first we entered the Rioja region of Spain. Do you know what that means? You probably know. I will be tasting a lot of great wine. Second observation is that we, humans, have a pasión for rocks. We stack them, we organize them in circles, etc. Look at this picture:

I saw vineyard and vineyard of Tempranillo, the grape for the Rioja wine.

To my friends from England, it is Rioja, repeat after me Rioja. There is not a K in the spelling.

Finally, I have to say that in my wildest dream I would have though that I could do 21 miles walking with my back pack in one go. If I translate that to golf, that is 4 rounds of golf walking.

Enjoy your day and Buen Camino

  1. Your trip looks amazing and sounds like it has been sufficiently challenging. I got all caught up on your posts and subscribed to the blog so I can follow along more closely. Hope my slave driving ways have made the start of your trip easier. Keep up the good work and enjoy the process.

    1. Definitely, the training is paying dividends. I have quickly developed the pilgrims legs. My only challenge is early in the morning with my upper back muscles very sore. After 2 hours goes away. After the 14 miles mark then my feet’s start getting sore
